--Jazz assistant Tyrone Corbin interviewed for the vacant head coaching jobs in Chicago and Phoenix but was not chosen for either one. The Bulls hired Phoenix assistant general manager Vinny Del Negro (after courting Mike D'Antoni and Doug Collins) while the Suns turned to Detroit assistant Terry Porter.
Corbin interviewed twice with Phoenix and once with Chicago. He went through three interviews with Seattle last year before losing out to P.J. Carlesimo for the Sonics' job. Corbin has spent four years as an assistant on Jerry Sloan's staff in Utah. "It's a little discouraging, but you go on," Corbin said. "I'm not frustrated. I'll keep plugging away and plugging away and something will happen... It's not my time yet. I'll just keep working."
--Although he is philosophically opposed to keeping a full 15-player roster, Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said he would be willing to do so this season.
O'Connor likes to leave the 15th spot free in case he has to take back an extra player with a guaranteed contract in a trade. The Jazz have 13 players under contract for this season and are expected to tender a qualifying offer to third-year guard C.J. Miles.
Assuming they use their first-round draft pick -- and do not select an international player who could remain overseas for a year with the Jazz retaining his rights -- the Jazz would be at the 15-player maximum.
"I don't like it, OK, and I really don't want to do it," O'Connor said, "but the one thing that we've got going for us is we've got four or five guys in the last year of their contract."
--For the second consecutive year, the Jazz will be affiliated with the NBA Development League's Utah Flash. The Jazz made extensive use of their affiliate last season, keeping rookies Morris Almond and Kyrylo Fesenko in Orem much of the year.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "God, we're becoming a destination point. Isn't that amazing what a point guard does for you?" -- Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor, after Roy Hibbert followed last year's first-round pick Morris Almond in strongly expressing his interest at playing in Utah before the draft.
