Utah Jazz Notes, Quotes 2009-07-25
--F Paul Millsap made an NBA-minimum $797,581 last season, but the Jazz will have to spend more than $19 million this season just to keep him. The Trail Blazers structured their offer sheet to Millsap with a $10.3 million upfront payment, including a $5.6 million signing bonus. That signing bonus, plus Millsap's first-year salary of $6.3 million, plus the Jazz's luxury-tax hit of $7.7 million brings Millsap's total cost for 2009-10 to $19.6 million.

--The Jazz officially introduced David Locke as their new radio broadcaster on July 20. Locke will replace Hot Rod Hundley, who retired after 35 seasons as the voice of the Jazz. Hundley was the final remaining member of the organization from its start as the New Orleans Jazz. Locke hosts an afternoon talk show on the Jazz' flagship station and previously called Seattle SuperSonics games in the 2006-07 season.

--F Paul Millsap, G Ronnie Brewer and G Kyle Korver all were set to take part in a USA Basketball mini-camp featuring two dozen top young pros in Las Vegas this month. Millsap did leave open the possibility that he could pull out, citing "personal issues," while Korver will see his first court action since undergoing wrist surgery. Jazz assistant coach Tyrone Corbin also will serve on the U.S. staff under Toronto coach Jay Triano.

--G Deron Williams came out in strong support of matching Portland's offer to Paul Millsap.

"I'm happy for Paul," Williams said, "so hopefully we can keep him here because I want him here with me."

At the same time, Williams revealed that he and Boozer had exchanged little more than a few text messages since the end of the season. Williams is especially close to Millsap, Ronnie Brewer, C.J. Miles and Kyle Korver among his current teammates.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I had a talk with the Jazz and the Jazz told me they wanted to go in a different direction and I respected their decision and we mutually agreed to work out a trade that was beneficial for them as well (as) beneficial for me and my family. That being said, I'm assuming to be traded here relatively soon or in good time." -- F Carlos Boozer, in a July 14 interview with WMVP 1000 AM in Chicago.
