Utah Jazz Notes, Quotes 2009-11-02

Utah Jazz Notes, Quotes 2009-11-02--Ronnie Brewer is expected to enter the summer as a restricted free agent after he and the Jazz were unable to come to agreement on a contract extension. Brewer is the lone member of the Jazz's core of young players (Deron Williams, Paul Millsap and C.J. Miles) not signed long term. Brewer has been a full-time starter and double-figure scorer on two playoff teams but now must prove himself in a contract year. "I give Ronnie a lot of credit," general manager Kevin O'Connor said. "He has enough confidence in himself that he's going to go out and be able to play well enough to earn himself a bigger contract." The Jazz went through restricted free agency with both Miles and Millsap and had to match offer sheets from other teams to keep both.

--With Mehmet Okur out with a mildly sprained left ankle and knee, Kyrylo Fesenko made his second career start Friday and showed that he might be a contributor this season. The third-year center scored 10 points and had three rebounds in 20 minutes and stayed on the floor for all of the third quarter despite picking up an early third personal. "He has shown a lot of those things in the practice, but he got an opportunity to play and I thought he did a great job," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "They only scored 38 points in the second half and his presence had to have something to do with it."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "That's who he is. He's come miles and miles and he deserves a lot of credit for what he's been able to do." -- Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, after Paul Millsap's 23-point game against the Clippers.
