Utah Jazz Notes, Quotes 2009-10-02

Utah Jazz Notes, Quotes 2009-10-02--The Jazz will leave Oct. 2 to play a pair of preseason games in London and Madrid, Spain, as part of the NBA's Europe Live tour. The Jazz will play Chicago in London before facing Real Madrid. The trip has caused no small amount of anxiety among the Jazz management, who take some comfort in returning with nearly three weeks left before opening night. "We've got enough time to assimilate ourselves back into going on the road, playing back-to-back games, coming back and all that stuff," general manager Kevin O'Connor said. "But you always worry about it." Jazz coach Jerry Sloan previously took a team to Japan to open the 1990-91 season, something he has described as one of the greatest challenges of his coaching career.

--Although it is difficult to calculate exact figures with teams still making roster decisions, the Jazz project to have the NBA's sixth-highest payroll this season. This comes despite playing in the league's sixth-smallest market. With $82.1 million in salary commitments, the Jazz also are positioned to pay the luxury tax at season's end for the first time in franchise history. "Now we've got to go out on the court and prove that it's worth it," O'Connor said. "Those are some of the things that are our responsibility."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Sometimes you can say it, but it's hard to comprehend it or maybe you want to look past it until you see yourself on film, and then you've got to be held accountable." -- Jazz G Deron Williams, on coach Jerry Sloan's increased emphasis on video scouting when it comes to defense.
