--Ronnie Price had never even started a game at point guard in his
three-year career before Deron Williams suffered a sprained ankle in the preseason. He came through Wednesday with the Jazz severely
shorthanded at point guard with Deron Williams and Brevin Knight both
out injured. Price finished with 16 points and six assists in 40
minutes and did not come out in the second half, something Jazz coach
Jerry Sloan did with Williams only a handful of times last season.
Price never had played more than 34 minutes in a game before in his
career.
--Jazz coach Jerry Sloan did have a backup plan with only one
point guard available for Wednesday's game. He brought C.J. Miles and
Andrei Kirilenko off the bench together with two minutes left in the
first quarter. The Jazz even outscored Milwaukee 25-20 with the two in
the game. Kirilenko was the Jazz's primary ball-handler while Miles
posted up Luke Ridnour for a couple of baskets and drained a
three-pointer. They were part of a five-forward lineup to start the
second quarter, along with Kyle Korver, Matt Harpring and Paul Millsap.
--The Jazz honored Jerry Sloan for his 1,000th victory as the
team's coach before the game. Owner Larry Miller presented Sloan with
the game ball from the victory on Nov. 7 against Oklahoma City as well
as a glass trophy from O.C. Tanner. Sloan now has 1,003 victories as
Jazz coach and will celebrate his 20th anniversary of taking over for
Frank Layden on Dec. 9.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I don't think you could take him out with a log
chain wrapped around him. You could tell he wanted to be on the floor
and compete." -- -- Jazz coach Jerry Sloan on Ronnie Price, who played
the entire second half of Wednesday's victory over Milwaukee.
