The Jazz will be well represented at next month's USA Basketball minicamp in Las Vegas, with Paul Millsap set to join Ronnie Brewer and assistant coach Tyrone Corbin in taking part.
DeAngelo Simmons, Millsap's agent, said Monday the third-year forward was one of the 24 players invited to the minicamp, which will bring together a group of the NBA's top young players. Among the others expected to participate are Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant, Portland's Greg Oden, Chicago's Derrick Rose, Memphis' O.J. Mayo and Blake Griffin, the expected No. 1 overall pick of the L.A. Clippers.
"He didn't hesitate to accept that invitation," Simmons said of Millsap, coming off a season in which he finished fourth in voting for the Most Improved Player award and recorded a streak of 19 consecutive double-doubles starting in Carlos Boozer's absence.
The minicamp, which will culminate with a July 25 intrasquad game, will be USA Basketball's first step in preparation for the 2010 world championships and 2012 Olympics.
"He thought it was a great honor, a great opportunity to play for his country if everything goes well and he shows that he can contribute to the team," Simmons said.
Having made a league-minimum $797,581 last season, Millsap will be a restricted free agent as of July 1, with Simmons saying he was "definitely open" to returning to Utah.
The Jazz will have the opportunity to match any offer Millsap receives from another team.
"It's an exciting time, but it's still nerve-wracking a little bit just to have to wait and see what his market value's going to be," Simmons said.
