Utah Jazz: Harpring out indefinitely

Utah Jazz: Harpring out indefinitely The Jazz announced Wednesday that Matt Harpring will miss all of training camp, the preseason and start of the regular season due to the ankle and knee problems he continues to battle.

Harpring will remain in Atlanta and be re-evaluated in six weeks, a team spokesman said. He will not be present for the Jazz's media day Friday. Harpring has missed the preseason in each of the last three seasons.

An 11-year NBA veteran, Harpring played in 63 games last season but has struggled to overcome the effects of a devastating infection he suffered following ankle surgery last summer as well as the multiple knee surgeries during his career.

Harpring's $6.5 million salary is fully guaranteed this season. The Jazz will get no salary cap/luxury tax relief if he is unable to play, but could recoup Harpring's salary from insurance.

The Jazz have 13 players under contract for the season including Harpring, but would have just 12 available for games if they do not sign another player.
