Having dropped three home games already this month -- the first time that has happened since April 2007 -- the Jazz will be desperate for a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Chicago Bulls. It will be the Jazz's first Thanksgiving game since moving to Utah. The team typically asks to play at home the day after Thanksgiving (as well as the day after Christmas) given the number of families that come together in Utah for the holidays. The Jazz agreed to play Thanksgiving night, however, at the league's request. Although they are no stranger to televised games, the small-market Jazz will have a showcase of sorts on a night only two games will be played.
"It should be fun," guard Deron Williams said. "We know a lot of people will be watching, a lot of people will tune in, so it's a good chance for us to show the country what we've got."
Of course, that might not be the best idea if the Jazz plays the way it did in Tuesday's loss to the Thunder. Utah was drilled 31-16 in the third quarter and trailed by 19 early in the fourth quarter as Oklahoma City won in Utah for the first time since relocating from Seattle.
The game against the Bulls figures to have two dominant storylines. The first involves Carlos Boozer, who lobbied for a trade to Chicago this summer, even going on the Bulls' flagship radio station to do so.
The second involves Williams and Derrick Rose, last season's Rookie of the Year. Williams and Rose have yet to meet at full strength; Williams suffered a sprained ankle last season when he landed on Rose's foot in a preseason game.
Rose had to sit out the Bulls' preseason game against Williams and the Jazz with an ankle injury of his own.
THUNDER 104, JAZZ 94: The Thunder crushed the Jazz 31-16 in the third quarter on its way to a Northwest Division victory, hitting eight 3-pointers for the night and outscoring the Jazz 20-12 on the fast break. The Jazz committed 24 turnovers, including seven by Deron Williams. Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook combined for 64 points for Oklahoma City.
