Portland, Ore. ? Jazz coach Jerry Sloan will miss Friday's game against Minnesota to fly home to McLeansboro, Ill., following the death Tuesday of his 80-year-old brother, Charles Ralph "Buck" Sloan .
Sloan coached Tuesday's game against Portland, but asked to skip his regular pregame session with reporters. He is expected to coach Thursday at Denver and rejoin the Jazz for Sunday's game at New Orleans. The Jazz said Buck Sloan died early Tuesday of what were believed to be heart-related causes. A viewing will be held Friday in McLeansboro, with funeral services Saturday. Sloan is one of 10 children.
Assistant Phil Johnson will coach the Jazz in Sloan's absence.

Snyder arrested
Not even a year after playing his last NBA game, former Jazz first-round draft pick Kirk Snyder has been arrested in Ohio and reportedly was jailed under suicide watch Tuesday.
Snyder was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault after allegedly breaking into his neighbor's house Monday at 3:30 a.m. and beating a sleeping man severely enough to break his jaw and ribs, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
"It's really sad, the situation right now," Jarron Collins said. "Someone that you've played with is having to go through such a serious situation. He's put himself in this predicament and hopefully he can work through it.
"Maybe more details will come out. It's just a very confusing story to read -- what was the motive behind it, or something like that? Hopefully, he can get the help he'd seem to need right now."
According to reports, Snyder attacked an inmate Monday night in a holding cell, has refused to speak to his defense lawyer and was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and placed under suicide watch at his arraignment Tuesday in Mason, Ohio.
.The Jazz drafted Snyder with the No. 16 overall pick in 2004, but he lasted only one season in Utah before he was traded. He played for four teams in a four-year NBA career --- ending last season with Minnesota -- before playing in China this season.

Kirilenko back
After leaving Monday's game with a sprained right ring finger, Andrei Kirilenko was back in the lineup Tuesday. "It's a little bit tender, but it's good," said Kirilenko, who did not dislocate the finger, as he did with his index finger in November, costing him two games.
