The order is a little more backward than customary, but after taking care of their second-round draft pick from 2006 in Paul Millsap , the Jazz now will turn their attention to doing the same with their first-round pick in Ronnie Brewer .
Much as they did with Deron Williams last summer, the Jazz have an exclusive negotiating window through Oct. 31 to sign Brewer to a contract extension, with general manager Kevin O'Connor acknowledging it will be among his next offseason priorities. "There's a check-off list and we're kind of at that point right now. Now the next thing to do is talk about that," O'Connor said, adding, "We like what Ronnie's done, certainly, and we'll have a conversation, but I think that conversation will be later on in the summer."
From the 2006 draft class, only No. 1 overall pick Andrea Bargnani has signed an extension so far. Bargnani agreed to a five-year, $50 million deal to stay in Toronto.
Should they not be able to reach agreement, Brewer would become a restricted free agent next summer. His agent, Henry Thomas , didn't return a message Saturday evening.

Millsap out for Team USA?
Although he accepted an invitation to take part in a USA Basketball mini-camp next weekend in Las Vegas, Millsap said he might back out, citing "personal issues."
"It's not a 'for sure' for me right now," Millsap said. "I would love to go out there and play, but I've got to work out some things over here first and then think about that."
From the Jazz , Millsap, Brewer and Kyle Korver all were invited to take part in the mini-camp, which will bring together a group of two dozen up-and-coming young pros.

Room to grow in the West
Asked about the Jazz's place in the Western Conference relative to the additions made by the L.A. Lakers and San Antonio, O'Connor pointed to a nucleus of Williams, Millsap, Brewer and C.J. Miles, all of whom were younger than 25 last season.
"So I think we can get better from within," O'Connor said. "I think next year our players should be better than they were this year and that's what we hope happens."
