Jazz unimpressed with East swing

Jazz unimpressed with East swing
Asked to summarize the Jazz's pre-Christmas road trip, Deron Williams gave an answer Archie Bunker would've liked and "Meathead" would've understood.

Williams' description of Utah's 2-3 Eastern swing?

A big, fat, wet raspberry. So, how does one spell that?

"P-l-t-h-h," Williams said, this time keeping his tongue in his mouth.

The Jazz returned from the second of their three five-game road trips with a 17-13 record. While they beat Detroit again and stunned New Jersey in that 22-point come-from-behind thriller, they also lost while averaging 22.3 turnovers at Boston, Chicago and Milwaukee.

"We probably played six good quarters of Basketball," Williams lamented.

Coach Jerry Sloan called the trip "disappointing." He was frustrated over turnovers, the Jazz's inability to finish strong -- in games and at the hoop -- and a lack of "concentration" that contributed to those deficiencies.

"Hopefully," Mehmet Okur added, "we're going to learn our lessons from those games, and look forward to play the rest of the season."

RARE BREAK: The NBA requires teams to give players either Christmas Day or Christmas Eve off, and Jazz players voted to break with tradition and practice on Dec. 24 this year.

Utah usually practices on Christmas night, so Williams was excited to have the holiday off.

"It'll be good," he said, "because you'll have the whole day with your family and hopefully have a good Christmas."

C.J. Miles is among the players making a quick trip home. He flew to Dallas after practice Wednesday and will return in time for Friday's game. E-mail: jody@desnews.com
