SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Kyle Korver hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 points to help the Utah Jazz beat the Portland Trail Blazers 100-89 on Thursday night in the exhibition finale for both teams.
Ronnie Brewer led Utah (4-3) with 22 points, and Carlos Boozer added 16. Channing Frye led Portland (4-3) with 17 points, and Rudy Fernandez had 16.The Blazers played without starters Brandon Roy and Greg Oden, who rested in preparation for the season opener Tuesday night at the Los Angeles Lakers. The Jazz played without point guard Deron Williams (sprained ankle), forward Matt Harpring (ankle) and center Jarron Collins (triceps tendinitis).
Utah forced Portland into six turnovers - three on shot-clock violations - and held Portland to 13 points in the third quarter.
"If we give that same kind of effort we had in the second half for our 82-game season, we'll be pretty good," Boozer said. "I think everyone's champing at the bit to get out there and see how good we're going to be."
Utah opened the fourth quarter with a 16-7 spurt, keyed by Korver's 3-pointers, and outscored Portland 27-13 in the final period.
"Bottom line is we didn't come out hard enough and they were on fire. They shot lights out in the first half," said Kover, who averaged 11.0 points in the preseason.
"(In the second half) we actually got the layups, instead of them getting the layups, and that changed the momentum."
The Blazers, coming off a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, built a 63-49 halftime lead. They made their first six 3-point attempts and finished 8-of-11 from 3-points range in the half.
Steve Blake added 14 points for Portland, rookie Jerryd Bayless and Travis Outlaw each scored 13 points and Shavlik Randolph had 10.
"We are definitely ready to start the season," Randolph. "We're ready to see some fruits of our labors and make the games count."
Before the game, Portland waived forward Luke Jackson and center Steven Hill.
