DETROIT ? It's official.
As first reported by The Salt Lake Tribune, former Utah Jazz star John Stockton and veteran coach Jerry Sloan are headed to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The announcement was made Monday morning.
Other members of the Class of 2009 are Michael Jordan, David Robinson and Rutgers' coach C. Vivian Stringer.
The five newest Hall of Famers will be inducted during ceremonies Sept. 10-12 at Springfield, Mass.
Stockton, Sloan, Jordan, Robinson and Stringer were selected from a group of 16 finalists by the Hall of Fame's 24-member Honors Committee. Finalists needed at least 18 votes for induction.
Stockton is the NBA's all-time leader in steals and assists. He helped lead the Jazz to the playoffs in each of his 19 seasons.
Sloan is the fourth-winningest coach in NBA history. As a player, he starred for the Chicago Bulls in the 1960s and 1970s.
